Well, it's here the last day of our 6 weeks program. Every year I sit writing the pre-summer blog, thinking how long the holidays seem and how busy we will be and then it seems almost no time at all and I'm again sitting writing a blog but this time its the end of summer blog, thinking how quickly it's went but also how much we have managed to cram into the time.
Before I get into the numbers and stats and stuff of the summer, here's a look at what has been going on this week. Due to the bank holiday it's been a short week in terms of total days but not hours worked or groups involved,
Tuesday saw us at Pots and Pancakes with Helping Hands before ice skating with the Besties (special mention goes to Becca our sessional worker for keeping us laughing on the ice). Wednesday saw the final day with the construction scheme prep sessions. The group have been amazing and one of the highlights of an already great summer this was before taking 2 groups to gravity force (my second home it seems).
Thursday has seen a final trip to quasar and we will wrap things up nicely with a helping hands session.
so now for some numbers.
Over the Summer we have had over 450 interactions with young people
we have done over 40 activities including:
6 overnight stays for different groups
2 theme park trips for groups that raised the funding
1 street jam (with the planning involved, one is enough)
7 kayaking sessions
6 full day sessions preparing young people for a construction scheme we are developing.
7 trips to gravity force (two in one day is a record for me)
and I think I've had to drink about 1231 cups of coffee to make sure I've got enough energy to keep up with all the young people.
All this was done while continuing our crisis and one to one support.
But as I'm sitting here, tired while writing this I can't help but feel happy with everything we have achieved in what has been the busiest summer we have done.
Now before I go into hibernation for 2 weeks before coming back to our day to day work and preparation for Xmas, I would like to say a big thank you to all the funders, sessional workers, Partner organisations, young people and anyone else who's helped make this summer so successful.
Cheers, The PDYP staff team
