4 down, 2 to go

4 down, 2 to go

Phew... what a week the 10th to the 14th was.

Starting off on the 10th saw Mike and Ave take 5 young people on an overinght stay to Beadnell Bay on the Northumberland coast. While their they made a camp fire on the beach, enjoy a session kayaking and prepared for their performance at the 4th annual Phoenix Jam.

Tuesday saw Becky and Helen take a 4 young women from the Helping Hands group up to the Beadnell house for a resi. While at the house they made pizza's and cup cakes, went rock pooling and on wednesday visited Alnwick Castle where harry Potter was filmed.

Wednesday also saw Mike drop Luke and Ave off (as luke cant drive the minibus yet) with the Besties for an overnight stay at Beadnell Bay. While their, the group went out for a fun session of kayaking, followed by home made curry for tea and a chance for one young woman to try and convince the rest of the group to eat willicks (a type of sea snail. she didnt succeed!!!) and after a chilled morning playing games on thursday, mike picked them all up and returned to a nice sunny meadowell.

Thursday also saw the start of what would be the final resi and the last day of sunshine. Becky took 2 young mums and 5 young children to the house. While there they played on the beach, went rockpooling and enjoyed fun and games ion the backyard.
(Thursday also saw Mike and Luke running round Newcastle trying to secure prizes for a skate comp that would eventually be cancelled due to rain).

Friday saw the coming together of several months planning for the 4th Annual Phoenix Jam and in true North East fashion, after 2 weeks of beautiful sunshine, the skys opened and torential rain moved the event indoors and meant postponing the graff art and skate comp. But as they say "the show must go on", and what a show it turned out to be. With over 60 competitors battling in two competitions (a breaking contest and an anything goes dance battle). As well as performances from Local MC Tony Richardson, A flash Mob by our Have A Heart group and D.J's Khan Fu and A.D.S and South Shields MC Rick Fury. Along side this, there were performances from some of the North Easts best dance cru's and informal breaking sessions with members of Bad Taste Cru and other dancers (sorry i dont know their names). we also had spectators from as far afield as Morocco.
At the event we also had sports running by NTC sports development team which was a huge success with the younger attendees.

Overall it was a huge success regardless of the weather. A special thankyou goes out to the Parks Leisure Centre team for all their help on the day.

But anyway, thats 4 weeks gone flying by and with only two more to go, i cant help but think where has the summer gone but also how fun its been
