Helen’s Blog

I’ve been on placement at the Phoenix DYP since May and have loved working with everyone there and meeting so many of you.

Through the activities you get involved in, I’ve been able to try loads of new things: I’ve had a go at break dancing with the girls from Limited Edition dance crew (they laughed at me), I’ve been trampolining with The Supertramps (they laughed at me as well), I’ve had my butt kicked at Laser Quaser by the Norhamers, I’ve been mountain biking at the beach (but didn’t get a go at sea kayaking as there wasn’t enough paddles- sad times), and I’ve seen some awesome graff art, dancing and scooter/skate/BMX tricks at the Street Jam.

As well as getting to do the fun stuff, I’ve learned a lot about the great work that Mike, Becky, Luke and the team do, and I’ve learned loads from you guys too. I’ve especially enjoyed seeing the work that 2 young people are doing on a legal highs project called Chemical Guinea Pigs, and I’m excited to see the finished video and posters.

I’ll be coming back to do some sessional work from time to time so I hope I will get to see everyone again at some point, plus meet some more of you and find out what other stuff you get up to with the Phoenix.
