For the past few months the PDYP has been training a group of young people with the goal of a 3 night camping/ kayaking expidition round the islands near Oban, Scotland.
This was successfully achieved when we went away from the 21st to the 24th of May.
After staying at a camp site in Oban on the thursday night, we set off from Loch Creran with fully loaded boats ready to get some miles behind us. After about a 12Km paddle we arrived at our campsite on a beautiful bit of the Isle of Lismore.
The group spent the sunny eveing learning how to cook on camping stoves, exploring the island and watching the sun set with a small, controlled fire burning next to the shoreline.
The next morning after erasing all evidence of us being there and a hearty breakfast we set off paddling to explore more of the island, some of the scenes the group got to see included, salmon farms as well as a trek up to the top of Castle Ceoffin.
The second night of wild camping was slightly wetter as torential rain set in not long after we set up camp on the mouth of Loch Creran and everyone was in their tents bedding down by 7:30pm after a 28km paddle.
We woke the final morning to beautiful sunshine and the light wind and swell pushing us towards minibus an 8km paddle away.
overall the group got alot out of it with one young man commenting "this is one of the 5 best things i have ever done"
The group got to see a range of beautiful sites as well as learn alot about themselves and how the manage in tiring and dificult situations as well as how they work in groups. They also learned about the importance of looking after the environment.
We would like to thank Colin at Oban Seakayak guides for the amazing experience.
