Young people have been meeting with the residents of Chirton Lodge on a weekly basis, to take part in a knitting group. This group was formed because some of the young people were interested in knitting and learning new craft skills. Chirton Lodge already had a knitting group so they invited young people from Phoenix DYP to join them...and 'Knit and Natter' was formed.
One of the young people had talked about how she had been a premature baby, and shared an idea about how she would love to knit some baby clothes to bring up to the premature baby unit at the RVI hospital. They are looking to take these items to the hospital soon.
The group usually consists of 10 of the residents and 5 young people from the PDYP.
"We all feel the group is fun and very exciting learning how to knit and really enjoy interacting with the residents of Chirton Lodge".
As one of the young people is pregnant, she says "I have really benifitted from learning to knit because I can make clothes for my new baby". She also felt that all the residents were very welcoming and enthusiastic about teaching her. Some of the residents from Chirton Lodge have expressed how they feel all the young people are very well mannered and they really enjoy working with the youngsters.
