Sea Spray and Spray Paint

Sea Spray and Spray Paint

Something Fishy has been happening at north shields fish quay after The PDYP and Norham High School made a big splash (i make no apologies for the puns) by spray painting some of the fencing.

The group of young people from Norham high spent 2 days painting a nautical themed spray paint piece which celebrates north shields coastal heritage. It was a great set of sessions in which two former Norham High Students and long time PDYP graf artists helped to educate and train the next generation of urban artists.

The young artists really got a lot out of the sessions commenting how it gives them a sense of pride that they can brighten up the community and how they really enjoyed learning to spray paint. While the two experienced artists got a chance to hone their skills as tutors and pass on their love and passion to the next generation.

The overall public response has been extremely positive towards not only the art work but also to urban art in general as for many of the public this is their first experience of spray paint art that wasn't someone "tagging a house or train track"

If you are interested in finding out more about urban art you can search us on Facebook (just type in Phoenix Detached Yputh Project)
